Brief history

At Stoneleigh Bible week John Kpikpi prophesied "a 1000 churches in the UK and churches of 1000's" and a faith challenge was set!

In recent years there has been a growing burden to plant churches into the nation of Wales.

At a Newfrontiers West Midlands apostolic meeting a scripture reflected both the desire and the path ahead 1 Sam 14:6 - 1 Sam 23:2 come let us go perhaps the Lord will act on our behalf.

Spring 2003: the Newfrontiers West Midlands apostolic team pinpointed Wrexham as a strategic place to plant a church.

The Brighton conference 2003: Nigel and Cally Lloyd were asked to lay aside the leadership of Rugeley Community Church to go to Wrexham; they agreed to go when a new leader was found for Rugeley.

March 2005: New leaders appointed in Rugeley.

May 2005: Nigel and Cally moved to Wrexham.

June 2005: a small group started to meet in midweek looking at vision and values.

October 2005: The group started to meet in NEWI (now Glyndŵr University) on Sunday mornings.

July 2007: Sunday 1st July 2007 was a very significant day. On that day Gateway Church made the transition from church plant to a fully constituted church. Nigel Lloyd was established as lead elder and the church was given the commission: "having given birth to a healthy baby, to grow and mature into adulthood".

A new church had begun, with a heart to establish a vibrant, effective church in Wrexham and to go on to plant other churches in mid and North Wales.

October 2009: a small group started in Deeside to meet midweek, looking at vision and values.

January 2010: Gateway Church Wrexham begins meeting in the Catrin Finch Centre.
